New software and hardware developments for 2007


The following software/hardware developments and releases of commercial software as freeware were announced in 2007:
  1. Eckhart Koppen announced v1.0.3 of his PIM application "Nitch". It is based on the GTD ("Getting Things Done") methodology. See http://40hz.org/wiki/index.php/Nitch
  2. Eckhart Koppen announced v3.5 of NHttpLib which allows Internet applications such as the web browser Courier, that rely on it, to support redirects. See http://40hz.org/wiki/index.php/NHttpLib
  3. Andy Galluzi announced v1.0 of Newton Connection Tools for Windows. This utility (equivalent to the old NCU) allows the Newton to do Newton package installation; Keyboard passthrough; Outlook Synchronization; Newton Package Management; Import/Export from and to RTF documents; Newton backup and restore operations; Newton interface for application development; Application for import and export of Newton mails to and from Outlook mails. Currently sold as commercial software but the author is considering giving prospective users a 30-day trial. See http://usuarios.arnet.com.ar/mtu16/
  4. Paul Guyot announced that Einstein, software that allowed Newton OS to operate from within Linux, was open sourced under the GNU GPL license.
  5. Matthias released another version of OpenEinstein for MS Windows. This should run on Windows 2000 and better, but not tested on Vista. Available at http://code.google.com/p/einstein , go to "Downloads"
  6. Simon Bell announced v1.1 of NCX, a NCU-type application for OS X.
  7. Jim Taub released Filepad, a flat file database system as freeware. Now downloadable from http://tinyurl.com/2u2plk
  8. The digital gourmet software application was also released as freeware. Now downloadable from http://tinyurl.com/36y6qq
  9. Eckhart Koppen announced Flashpoint v0.2 another GTD type PIM application. Downloadable from http://40hz.org/wiki/index.php/Flashpoint
  10. Paul Guyot released NPDS server 2.104; NPDS is a web server and associated support modules for Newton devices running Newton OS 2.x.
  11. The KnowledgeNavigator announced the development of a USB docking device for Newtons. See http://www.newtonsales.com/
  12. Bob Redknap announced the release of fleXYcad(v2.2). fleXYcad assists with the layout of electronic components on perforated strip-board. Simply pick-and-place components and adjust the circuit-design by removing and replacing the items. In fleXYcad(v2) a PCB layout can be automatically created, and then laser-printed for making a DIY circuit-board. See http://www.old-sock.co.uk/index.shtml.
  13. Brian Parker released his software as freeware: NewtChat - http://www.sealiecomputing.com/newtchat AIM client, no idea if it still runs. Should be able to fix the hardcoded stuff in the source if it has changed. If it does work the full version is now free there. MathFaster - http://www.sealiecomputing.com/mathfaster Math teaching game, full version now free, source also avail. nWarrior - http://www.sealiecomputing.com/nwarrior RPG type game like Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy. I really can't remember how far this was but I think the engine was mostly done. May take lots of work to decode whats going on with this one.   14. Sonny Hung announced the release of StatsNOW! as a freeware application. The program is a BaskballLogger and Stats application for the Newton.
